Journey from the Aegean coast into the Anatolian interior on a nine-day tour linking Ephesus and the Lycus Valley with Pisidian Antioch, Iconium and Cappadocia.
Biblical study and archaeology are complemented by village food and traditional crafts, with an optional winery visit available for interested groups. Three nights near Ephesus and three in Cappadocia balance substantial site visits with time to experience local landscapes and daily life.
- Route: Izmir → Kuşadası and Ephesus → Miletus, Didyma and Priene → Colossae, Laodicea and Hierapolis → Pisidian Antioch → Konya → Sultanhanı → Cappadocia → Kayseri
- Format: Private or escorted group
- Tour Focus: Acts, the Letters to the Ephesians and Colossians, selected church cities of Revelation and later Byzantine Christian life in Cappadocia.
Important Historical and Biblical Context
Ephesus, Miletus, Pisidian Antioch and Iconium have direct connections with events narrated in Acts. Colossae and Laodicea introduce the network of communities addressed in early Christian letters. Cappadocia extends the story into later monasticism and Byzantine art. Its surviving painted churches mostly date to many centuries after Paul, and the region is not presented as a documented stop on his journeys.
Further context: Acts 20

Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
9 DaysArrival in Izmir
Arrive at Izmir Airport and transfer to your hotel near Ephesus. Guests already staying in Kuşadası can join by prior arrangement. Settle in for dinner and an introduction to the journey. The opening briefing connects the Aegean cities with the inland routes ahead, preparing you to explore the landscape alongside the biblical passages encountered along the way.
Overnight: Kuşadası or near Ephesus
Ephesus with Village Flavors
Visit the Basilica of St. John before exploring Ephesus, including the Great Theater, major streets and Terrace Houses. Discuss Acts 19 and the relationship between religion, trade and public life, while recognizing that many visible monuments postdate Paul. See the Temple of Artemis site, then enjoy a village lunch that introduces the region’s agricultural traditions and contemporary food culture.
Overnight: Kuşadası or near Ephesus
Miletus and the Ionian Cities of Didyma and Priene
Visit Miletus, where Paul met the Ephesian elders for the farewell recorded in Acts 20. Reflect on the personal ties and responsibilities of leadership behind the missionary narrative. Continue to the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, then explore Priene’s planned streets, civic buildings and synagogue remains. Together these sites offer a wider understanding of the religious and urban environment in which Jewish and Christian communities lived.
Overnight: Kuşadası or near Ephesus
Colossae and the Lycus Valley
Travel inland to the Lycus Valley. Make a short stop at Colossae where access permits, then explore Laodicea, considering its prosperity and the imagery of Revelation 3:14–22. At Hierapolis, examine the city’s monumental remains and the later tradition of St. Philip, with the hilltop sanctuary visited according to walking ability. View Pamukkale’s travertines and consider how neighboring cities could share a landscape yet develop different identities.
Overnight: Pamukkale
Pisidian Antioch and Iconium
Continue to Yalvaç for Pisidian Antioch, where Acts 13 records Paul’s synagogue sermon. Explore the Roman colony’s surviving spaces and discuss the spread of the message among Jewish and Gentile listeners. Travel onward to Konya, ancient Iconium, for an introduction around Alaeddin Hill, as daylight permits. Here, consider how the ancient city lies beneath later urban development, rather than expecting a complete first-century town to remain visible.
Overnight: Konya
Across the Plateau to Cappadocia
Begin at the Mevlana Museum in Konya, associated with the poet and mystic Rumi and the Mevlevi tradition. The museum visit introduces the region’s later Islamic heritage; it does not include a whirling dervish ceremony.
Continue across the Anatolian plateau, stopping at Sultanhanı Caravanserai. This Seljuk monument belongs to a much later period than Paul and introduces the traditions of hospitality, trade and long-distance travel. Continue to Cappadocia and explore Kaymaklı Underground City, subject to access. Its narrow passages and communal spaces reveal how inhabitants adapted to periods of danger and organized life below ground.
Overnight: Cappadocia
Göreme and Zelve
Explore the rock-cut churches of Göreme Open Air Museum, examining selected biblical scenes in their Byzantine artistic setting. Discuss how worship, teaching and patronage shaped these spaces. Continue to Zelve for a walk through a landscape of former dwellings and religious structures. Visiting both sites connects the painted interiors with the surrounding settlements and the rock from which people shaped their buildings.
Overnight: Cappadocia
Soğanlı and Cappadocian Handicrafts
Walk through selected parts of Soğanlı Valley, where rock-cut churches occupy a quieter rural setting. The pace allows time to observe the landscape and discuss the relationship between religious life and village communities. Continue to Ürgüp and Avanos to encounter local craft traditions, including pottery demonstrations where arranged. Shopping is entirely optional; the emphasis is on the skills and materials that continue to shape Cappadocian identity.
Overnight: Cappadocia
Departure from Kayseri
Transfer to Kayseri Airport for your onward flight. The journey concludes after moving from the public spaces of Roman cities into the churches and settlements of Byzantine Cappadocia. Guests adding Istanbul can continue by a suitable domestic flight, with their extension accommodation and visits arranged separately.
